St Francis Xavier has a highly regarded Learning Support (SEND) team who work with students and staff. The aim is to enable students to access the wide range of activities that contribute to school life. The school has been adapted to accommodate students with disabilities. Please read our SEND information report for details about the implementation of our SEND Policy.

The Learning Support department works to identify, assess and meet the special needs of students at St Francis Xavier School. Once at St Francis, students may be referred by parents, subject teachers or by the Director of Learning whenever a barrier to learning is identified. Student progress is regularly monitored and assessments are carried out throughout the year.

Our  SEND Policy is to provide appropriate support, whilst allowing all students to follow a full, broad and balanced curriculum that can be personalised to meet individual need. Support assistants work alongside subject teachers in the classroom. Students may be withdrawn from some lessons to follow an intensive literacy and/or numeracy programme with Learning Support staff. We also offer interventions during morning registration: Units of Sound, Better Reading Partners, Handwriting Speed Up, 1to1 Catch Up and Read Write Gold.
