“St Francis Xavier is an outstanding school. It provides an environment where students are well known and cared for as individuals and where there is an emphasis on and expectation of high achievement. The exemplary behaviour of students makes an exceptional contribution to learning and is supportive of all.”
The above is a headline quote from our July 2012 ‘Outstanding’ OFSTED report. In order to be able to create this kind of environment, it is vital that the school works in close partnership with parents.
There are a number of ways you can support your child to improve their progress. Here are some tried and tested techniques:
Help your child plan their time. Include the planning process in the family diary. How can they best fit their homework in around their other activities?
Visual learner: likes to make a colour-coded list with some little pictures
Auditory learner: prefers to make a tape and chant out the words
Kinaesthetic learner: associates the words with actions and acts them out
In practice, most of us seem to be a bit of a mixture and to learn best when we combine the three styles.
Talk to us.We welcome parents to contact the school at anytime should you be concerned about any aspect of your child’s education. If you do wish to discuss your child’s progress, or any concerns you may have, then just ring the school to make an appointment with the appropriate member of staff. Please note that appointments need to be arranged in advance. As well as teaching lessons staff are involved in meetings and after school activities which means they may not be able to see you without first arranging a mutually convenient time.
