“Our aim to take all pupils out of their own comfort zones so that they are able to reach, or exceed their own potential. Even if they didn’t realise they had that potential” St Francis Xavier School PE department.
The St Francis Xavier School Physical Education department is comprises of 3 members of staff, Miss Zissler (Head of PE, Girls) Mr Marley (Head of PE, Boys) and Mr Lowe. We are highly motivated and committed to developing our pupils as individuals as well as young sportsmen and women, through the promotion of fair play and sporting etiquette at the core of all PE and extra curricular sport.
As a relatively small school we have a great deal of individual and team success in Competitions each year, and as a result our pupils are often selected to represent Area, County and National teams. In the past 5 years we have had 2 separate World Champion Irish Dancers at St Francis Xavier School as well. All success, in or out of school is celebrated equally. This success comes from a great commitment to sport, from both the staff and the pupils. We run many teams for both boys and girls at all age groups, and compete in a range of competitions and festivals. We welcome anyone to our practices as they are fully inclusive, and no one will ever be turned away.
We aim to achieve lifelong participation in sport for all of our pupils by providing access to a wide range of activities throughout core PE in Key Stage 3 and 4. These activities will include the more traditional sports such as football, netball, rugby, athletics and gymnastics, as well activities such as Frisbee, trampolining, aerobics, dance, and a great many others. With the exception of contact sports, most teaching groups will be mixed gender. At Key Stage 4, we offer the AQA GCSE PE, with the Full course (1 GCSE) or the Double Award (2 GCSEs) being available. We are a high achieving department, and our results have consistently been over 75% A*-C in recent years.
