Key stage 4 aims to build on the knowledge and understanding the pupils have developed over the first 3 years in their academic efforts at St Francis Xavier.
At this point the pupils have undertaken the options process and are now focused on the key subjects they have chosen to take at GCSE level. Compulsory subjects are part of this stage. Pupils must study the following subjects at key stage 4:
All other subjects fit within the option structure.
We use the national examining bodies for our coursework including AQA and EDExcel. Some of these courses include modular work and may have milestone examinations through the 2 years. Coursework and examination results account for differing percentages of the overall GCSE mark, depending on the subject.
